Seek
Dear Collective,
If you spend all day looking for shit, don’t be surprised when you find it.
It is out there. It’s on the grass, it’s on the sidewalk, and if you focus all your energy on searching for it, you’ll find it. You will probably end up stepping in it, too.
But the exact same rule applies to the good stuff.
What you seek is seeking you. We worked through this intention. Your brain has a filter. In science, they call it the Reticular Activating System. It’s the reason why, the moment you start thinking about buying a red car, you suddenly start seeing red cars on every single street corner.
The cars were always there. Your brain just finally decided they were important enough to notice.
The world is full of thousands of things happening all at once. There is beauty, there is struggle, there is noise, and yes, there is garbage. Your brain cannot process all of it, so it actively seeks out the things you have decided are important. You emit a frequency with your actions, and you tune your radio to match it.
If you walk into the studio expecting people to be cold, cliquey, or judgmental, your brain will go on a scavenger hunt to prove you right. You will find the one person who didn't smile at you, and you will use that to build a whole story about how you don't belong. You get to be "correct" about the world being a cold place, but you end up lonely.
But if you walk through those doors seeking connection, seeking a comrade to fight through a tough set with, and seeking the good in the room?
You will find that, too.
You will find the person who holds the door. You will find the coach who steps in to give you a spot. You will find the partner who matches your energy when you are struggling to keep your head up.
Your ideal tribe is actively looking for you. But they can't find you if you are hiding behind a wall of skepticism. If you want a community that values compassion, strength, and mutual support, you have to embody those exact traits first. You have to be the beacon for the things you want to attract.
We see this play out on the gym floor during every single workout. If you start a hard block of training looking for the pain, looking for the fatigue, and looking for reasons why you should scale back or quit, your body will give you exactly what you asked for. Your chest will feel tighter, the barbell will feel heavier, and you will find your limit real quick.
But if you seek the capability, if you seek the correct movement pattern, and if you seek the small 1% win in that specific minute, the training shifts. You find the strength to do one more rep.
This isn't about fake positivity or ignoring reality. It is about taking back the steering wheel of your mind.
Life is going to throw messes at you. Some days are going to be frustrating, and things will go sideways. We can't control the events, but we get to choose where we aim our eyes.
This week, stop looking for the dirt. Stop looking for the reasons to be annoyed, tired, or defeated.
Look for the good. Look for the teammate who is working hard next to you. Embody the strength you want to see in the room, and let the good things finally find you.
With Strength and Community,
Charlie
